Labor Day is Monday, and unlike some federal holidays, the majority of stores will be open.

So if you need to do some last-minute grocery shopping – or perhaps you’re on the hunt for a bargain and have some time to search for deals – you’re in luck.

However, across the board not everywhere will be open; some retailers may still be closed. And some services, like mail delivery, won’t take place as usual.

Here’s what is open and closed on Labor Day this year:

Will banks be open?

Major national banks, such as Bank of America, Chase and Key Bank, won’t be open for branch services.

Will post offices be open, and will mail be delivered?

Labor Day is listed as a holiday on the U.S. Postal Service calendar. Regular mail and packages won’t be delivered. Post offices will be closed as well.

Will FedEx and UPS be making deliveries?

If you’re expecting a package from FedEx or UPS on Labor Day, you’ll have to wait. Both shipping services won’t make deliveries on Labor Day.

Will state offices be open on the holiday?

According to the State of Illinois, because Labor Day is an official holiday, facilities like courthouses and Secretary of State’s Office locations will not be open on Monday.

Will garbage be picked up on Labor Day?

If your garbage pick-up day falls on a Monday, you’ll want to check with your local provider to find out if pickup will take place. In the city of Chicago, there will be no trash or recycling service, according to the city’s Holiday Garbage Schedule.

Will the stock market be open?

United States stock markets will be closed in observance of the holiday. Both the Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange are expected to reopen on Tuesday.

Which stores will be open, closed on Labor Day?

The majority of stores will be open, including the following:

  • Aldi – Limited hours
  • CVS

    The Home Depot
  • Jewel Osco
  • Meijer
  • Sam’s Club – Limited hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Target – 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Walgreen’s
  • Walmart
  • Whole Foods – Most stores will be open

Note: Stores may not be operating on regular hours. Hours vary by location.

While the majority of stores will be open, Costco isn’t in the same boat. Its locations will remain closed for the holiday.
