Currencies and bonds are trading but liquidity is thin after trading of futures and options on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was halted due to a data-center problem.
The situation is exacerbated by low liquidity following Thursday’s U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.
On currency markets, analysts also reported that forex trading on the EBS platform—a wholesale electronic trading platform for foreign exchange that is part of CME Group—was affected by the outage.
Liquidity in currencies and bonds will be “substantially thinner than usual,” said Pepperstone’s Michael Brown. “We could be looking at choppier and more volatile trading conditions than usual, especially if any unexpected news were to break,” he said.
