Stock market updates on April 04, 2024: Benchmark equity indices rallied to all-time new highs in Thursday’s intra-day deals led by strong gains in index heavyweight HDFC Bank, after the private sector lender reported over 100 per cent YoY growth in retail loans in Q4.
The S&P BSE Sensex hit a new summit at 74,501, and quoted 400 points higher at 74,270 levels. The NSE Nifty 50 scaled a high of 22,619, and was seen hovering around the 22,550 levels.
HDFC Bank was up nearly 3% at Rs 1,524. NTPC, Axis Bank, Power Grid Corporation and Tata Steel were the other major gainers. On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma and HCL Technologies were among the notable Sensex loses.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index surged 0.6 per cent, while the SmallCap soared 1 per cent.
