With the failure of US-Iran peace talks and Trump’s declaration of US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, uncertainty and along with it crude price have spiked. Brent at $103 is emerging as yet another threat to the economy and markets.
How this naval blockade, which in effect will be a US blockade of Iran’s blockade, will play out remains to be seen. There can be dramatic developments on the geopolitical front and consequently on markets also. The ideal strategy in this ultra-uncertain situation is to wait and watch.

Aakash Shah, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Equity Broking
Indian equity markets are expected to open on a gap-down note on Monday, tracking weak global cues and a sharp decline in GIFT Nifty.
GIFT Nifty is currently trading around 23,750 down -335 points, indicating a negative start for domestic indices.
The weakness comes amid renewed geopolitical concerns after failed US–Iran talks and rising crude oil prices, which are weighing on global sentiment and Asian markets.
In the previous session (10th April), benchmark indices ended strongly higher, recovering sharply from earlier losses. The Nifty 50 gained 275 points (1.16%) to close at 24,050.60, while the BSE Sensex surged 918 points to settle at 77,550.25, led by buying in auto, banking, and capital goods stocks.
From a technical perspective, the Nifty 50 had reclaimed the 24,000 mark, but the sharp fall in GIFT Nifty suggests the index may again slip below this crucial level at the open. Immediate support is seen near 23,650–23,600, while resistance is placed around 23,950–24,000.
The Bank Nifty saw a strong rebound in the previous session, but is likely to witness pressure again in early trade. The index is expected to face resistance near 55,800–56,000, while support is placed around 55,500–55,300.
Overall, the market setup suggests a weak to negative start, tracking global cues and a sharp fall in GIFT Nifty. Despite Friday’s strong recovery, sentiment has turned cautious again, and the market may witness profit booking and volatility, especially if Nifty sustains below the 24,000 mark.
Gaurav Udani, Founder – Thincredblu Securities
Nifty is expected to open sharply lower around 23,700, down nearly 350 points, reacting to negative global cues following the failure of recent peace talks.
After the recent upmove, this gap-down suggests a shift back to caution, with sentiment turning risk-off. The index is likely to test immediate support zones early in the session.
On the downside, 23,600–23,700 will act as a crucial support range. A break below this could trigger further selling pressure. On the upside, 23,900–24,000 now becomes immediate resistance, and any bounce towards this zone may face selling.
Given the news-driven setup, markets are expected to remain highly volatile, with sharp intraday swings.
Strategy remains cautious — avoid aggressive longs at the open. Traders can look to sell on rise or wait for stability near support before considering fresh positions.

The Nifty remained positive, supported by lower crude oil prices amid rising expectations of a concrete truce deal. On the hourly chart, the index has been steadily moving higher from the 200 SMA, confirming an improving environment for a bullish trend.
On the daily timeframe, the RSI is in a bullish crossover and continues to rise, indicating strengthening momentum. In the short term, the trend may remain positive. On the other hand, if no concreate truce deal is reached by the weekend, market might react negatively.
Immediate support is placed at 23,800, below which the index may decline towards lower levels. On the upside, the 24,300–24,350 zone is likely to act as a resistance area.
Nilesh Jain, Head – Technical and Derivatives Research Analyst (Equity Research), Centrum Broking
The bulls have regained control after a brief pause in the previous session, with the Nifty closing above the psychological 24,000 mark. The broader market structure remains positive, and a further short-covering rally could push the index towards the 24,300–24,500 zone in the near term. Meanwhile, the India VIX has declined sharply by 25% during the week, easing towards the 19 mark. Any further softening in volatility is likely to provide additional comfort to the bulls.
