Freshpet (FRPT) Stock Is Up, What You Need To Know

What Happened?

Shares of pet food company Freshpet (NASDAQ:FRPT) jumped 3.9% in the afternoon session after Needham & Company initiated analyst coverage on the company, according to TipRanks. Fresh research coverage helped the stock rebound after an almost 18% drop in September. Initiation typically brings earnings models, forecasts, and a formal investment view—often enough to pull in new attention and volume after a rough stretch.

The shares were trading at $60.10, up 4.1% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Freshpet’s shares are very volatile and have had 26 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was about 2 months ago when the stock gained 12.7% on the news that the company reported strong second-quarter 2026 financial results, beating analyst estimates on the top and bottom lines. The fresh pet food maker announced net sales of $305.6 million, a 15.5% increase from the prior year, surpassing the consensus estimate of $292.3 million. Its earnings per share came in at $0.39, significantly higher than the anticipated $0.22. The strong performance was driven by a 15.7% gain in sales volume, and the company’s adjusted EBITDA also comfortably exceeded expectations. Looking ahead, Freshpet provided a full-year adjusted EBITDA forecast with a midpoint of $215 million, which topped Wall Street’s estimates and signaled management’s confidence in its continued growth.

Freshpet is flat since the beginning of the year, and at $60.10 per share, it is trading 29.7% below its 52-week high of $85.50 from March 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Freshpet’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $414.66.
