Stock futures are steady this this morning following a mixed performance for major indexes last week; Delta, Pepsico, and Levi Strauss are on the earnings schedule for this week; cryptocurrency stocks are gaining with bitcoin trading near a nine-month high; the euro is at its lowest point against the dollar since May 2025; and Nvidia shares are rising after touching a new all-time high on Friday. Here’s what you need to know today.
Stock Futures Are Little-Changed to Kick Off the Week
Stock futures are little-changed to kick off the first full week of October. Futures tracking the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 were hovering near unchanged recently, while tech-heavy Nasdaq futures slipped 0.2%. The major indexes rose on Friday, as a weaker-than-expected employment report eased fears that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates later this month. The Nasdaq, which touched an all-time high on Friday, managed to post a gain for the week, while the Dow and the S&P 500 lost ground last week. WTI crude oil futures were down 0.8% at $90.40 per barrel this morning as investors await fresh developments in the Middle East, while gold futures were up 0.5% at $4,180 an ounce. The yield on the 10-year Treasury was little-changed at 5.28%, while bitcoin traded at around $86,200 (more on that below).
Delta and Pepsi Headline the Earnings Calendar This Week
Investors will get their first taste of the third-quarter earnings season this week, with reports from a few big names on tap. Beer and spirits maker Constellation Brands (STZ) reports after the bell tomorrow, followed by results from Levi Strauss (LEVI) and Applied Digital (APLD) after Wednesday’s closing bell. Pepsico (PEP) is set to release results Thursday morning, with Delta Air Lines (DAL) reporting Friday morning, providing insights into how consumers have fared in recent months. Investors will hear directly from consumers with the Michigan Consumer Sentiment survey for October due out Friday. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to release the minutes from last month’s meeting on interest rates on Wednesday, which investors will pore over for clues about what the Fed could do at this year’s remaining meetings.
Crypto Stocks Rise With Bitcoin Near 9-Month High
Bitcoin is approaching a fresh nine-month high, and cryptocurrency-related stocks are going along for the ride. Bitcoin was recently at $86,200, up from a weekend low of around $84,500 and approaching last month’s high of $87,300, which was the cryptocurrency’s highest point since January. Bitcoin has rallied in recent months amid hopes that the crypto industry could get new clarity from federal regulation, along with hopes that the Fed and Treasury’s efforts to tame inflation and stabilize the bond market could improve risk sentiment. Shares of Coinbase (COIN), Robinhood (HOOD), Mara Holdings (MARA), Circle (CRCL), and Strategy (MSTR), the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, are all solidly higher of the opening bell.
Euro Hits Weakest Level Vs Dollar In Over a Year
The euro is falling this morning, with 1 euro worth about $1.12, the weakest exchange rate for the common currency since May 2025, amid worries about the political and financial health of the region. Spain is on the verge of major political changes after its prime minister on Monday called for snap elections to take place next month amid protests over a failed housing reform package, per Bloomberg. The recent global bond sell-off that has sent U.S. Treasury yields to multi-decade highs has also hit European markets, raising borrowing costs and fears about the financial stability of some E.U. members such as France and Italy, Bloomberg reported.
Nvidia Stock Rising After Setting Fresh Record Friday
Nvidia (NVDA) shares are inching higher this morning after setting a new high on Friday. The stock hit a high of nearly $238 during Friday’s session, helping to boost the Nasdaq to an intraday record itself, before both Nvidia and the tech-centric index pared gains. Nvidia finished Friday at $234, just below its record closing high of $235.74 set back in May. Investors have cheered Nvidia’s efforts to continue developing AI-related software to go along with massive demand for its vital AI hardware. Last Monday, the company announced it is boosting its stock buyback plan by $150 billion, a sign for investors that executives think the stock has more room to run. Nvidia shares were up 0.5% in recent premarket trading.
