Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching and what’s on the radar for the next session. The great rate debate and stocks in the U.S.A. The bottom line on Wednesday’s Federal Reserve September meeting minutes : Another hike is on the way, probably before the end of the year. The Kalshi prediction market crowd now sees a 76% likelihood of a hike before the end of 2026. If you missed the 2 p.m. hour of ” Power Lunch ” with Brian Sullivan on CNBC Wednesday, go back and watch the A-block. The team set the scene with live commentary which included this warning from Cem Karsan, a longtime options trader on the floor of the Cboe in the great city of Chicago. He said, “We’re getting to the edge.” Karsan continued, “At some point we’ll wake up one morning and bonds will move 20 basis points and things will really start to break.” The debate is on all day on CNBC about at what point can rates do some damage to stocks. The S & P 500 hit a high on Tuesday. It is up about 14% this year. The Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq-100 also hit highs on Tuesday. Year to date, the Nasdaq-100 is up 23.4% and the Nasdaq Composite is up 18.5%. The yields on U.S. 30-year Treasury and 10-year hit highs not seen since 2002. The 2-year yield is at 4.77%. .SPX YTD mountain The S & P 500 in 2026 Tariffs and the Great American Consumer CNBC TV’s Megan Cassella reports on a report from the New York Fed, showing tariffs are driving up costs for consumers. The full story will be out on Thursday. But for now, let’s look at the mall stocks. The mall’s got it all. Best Buy is off 12% from last month’s high. The stock is up 32% in six months. Dillard’s is also down 12% from the December 2025 high. Shares are up about 25% in three months. Macy’s is off 14% from the August high. Shares are up 26% in six months. Gap is 19% from the February high. Kohl’s is down 20% from the high hit in December. Five Below is 23% below its high from August. Bath and Body Works is down 35% from the October 2025 high. PepsiCo The stock is at lows not seen since April 2020 — the beginning of Covid times. PepsiCo reports earnings before the bell on ” Squawk Box ” Thursday with Becky Quick, Joe Kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin. The stock is down almost 15% in three months. CEO Ramon Laguarta will be on ” Squawk on the Street ” in the 10 a.m. hour. PEP 3M mountain PepsiCo in the past three months The Skydance guys David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz, co-CEOs will join CNBC’s David Faber live at 8:45 a.m. Thursday after their company completed its mega merger earlier this week . Skydance hasn’t had a great showing. Shares are down 6.4% this week and down about 14% in October. Comcast The stock is now at lows not seen since October 2013. Comcast ended Wednesday’s session at $20.94. It’s off 36% from the February high. Shares are down 25% so far in 2026.
