As digital communities and visual communication evolve, investors are weighing the merits of different social platforms. Should you put your capital behind Reddit (NYSE:RDDT) or Snap (NYSE:SNAP) in 2026?

Reddit operates a community-driven platform built on niche interests and deep archives, while Snap focuses on ephemeral messaging for younger demographics. Both companies compete for digital advertising dollars against much larger rivals. Here is a comparison of their financials, user growth, and valuation to see which fits better in a diversified portfolio of investing in social media stocks.

The case for Reddit

Reddit operates a massive community platform where users create topic-based discussions and exchange insights. The company generates the majority of its revenue through third-party advertising, which accounted for approximately 94% of revenue in 2025. Customer concentration adds a layer of risk to the business, as the top ten largest advertisers account for roughly 21% of total revenue. Reddit is also exploring a content licensing model where it sells data to companies training generative artificial intelligence models.

In its 2025 fiscal year (FY), revenue reached $2.2 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 69.4%. The company reported net income of $529.7 million during this period. This resulted in a net margin of 24.1%, which is a significant improvement over the net loss reported in the prior fiscal year. High growth and positive earnings suggest the platform is successfully scaling its ad business.

As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the company carried a debt-to-equity ratio of zero, indicating it has no total debt relative to its shareholder equity. Its current ratio, which measures the ability to pay short-term obligations with current assets, was 11.6x. Free cash flow for the year was $684.2 million. Note that stock-based compensation (SBC) represented 49.7% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

The case for Snap

Snap is a technology company focused on its Snapchat camera application and various augmented reality services. It derives a substantial majority of its revenue from third-party advertising, which accounted for 87% of total revenue in FY 2025. While advertising remains the primary driver, the company has successfully introduced Snapchat+, a subscription model with more than 25 million subscribers. Snap works with a broad range of advertisers from small businesses to global brands.
