Planet Fitness (PLNT) stock is up, what you need to know

What happened?

Shares of the inclusive gym franchise company (NYSE:PLNT) jumped 4.3% in the afternoon session after the company reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 financial results, authorized a new $500 million share repurchase program, and initiated a review of domestic corporate-owned clubs.

According to the company’s release, revenue rose to $360.0 million and same-club sales rose 1.5%. Adjusted earnings were 83 cents a share. Planet Fitness raised its full-year sales and same-club sales outlook. The club review is about selling company-owned gyms to franchisees and using the proceeds for capital allocation. The company also agreed to buy a club chain in Portugal.

The shares closed the day at $60.06, up 4.7% from the previous close.

What is the market telling us

Planet Fitness’s shares are somewhat volatile and have had 13 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 27 days ago when the stock gained 8.7% on the news that UBS reiterated a Buy rating on the company with an $80 price target and cited evidence of strengthening member demand.

According to TipRanks, UBS pointed to stronger membership growth in September, early momentum in October, and effective pricing promotions as signs that demand is improving. The firm also said emerging artificial-intelligence risks look manageable. A write-up of the note said UBS did not give enrollment figures, and that the $80 target implied about 68% upside from the price at the time. Planet Fitness had about 21.5 million members at the end of June, and on August 31 it started a fall promotion at $1 down and $10 a month through September 10.

Planet Fitness is down 45.3% since the beginning of the year, and at $60.06 per share, it is trading 46.4% below its 52-week high of $111.97 from November 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Planet Fitness’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $627.34.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
