Stock Futures Rising After Trump Shooting

U.S. stock futures are gaining early Monday after the attempted assassination of presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Markets don’t appear to be rattled by the attack on former president Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Signs that the Federal Reserve may lower interest rates as soon as September could also give stocks a boost.

U.S. stock futures were gaining early Monday after the attempted assassination of presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 220 points, or 0.6%. S&P 500 futures were up 0.4%, while contracts tracking the technology-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.5%. All three indexes rose on Friday.

Markets don’t appear to be rattled by the attack on former president Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

“The shooting at former U.S. President Trump’s election rally during the weekend has provoked only a limited market reaction,” said UBS strategist Paul Donovan.

Signs that the Federal Reserve may lower interest rates as soon as September could also give stocks a boost.

Bond yields were mixed. The yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury bond was at 4.215% early Monday compared with 4.186% Friday. The yield on the 2-year note was at 4.453%, compared with 4.531% at the end of last week.
