Chinese Stocks Close Higher. U.S. Stance on Tariffs Unlikely to Change Much Under Harris or Trump

Chinese shares closed higher ahead of the U.S. election and the NPC standing committee meeting this week.
Auto makers and brokers led the gains. Nanhua Futures rose 6.1% and Huaan Securities was up 5.7%. Auto stocks were higher after robust October sales. BYD closed 5.7% higher and Chongqing Changan Automobile gained 6.0%. Among the top decliners, Oppein Home Group lost 2.5%. Oil stocks were lower. Cnooc and PetroChina both lost 1.2% each.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended 1.2% higher at 3310.21; the Shenzhen Composite Index closed 2.0% higher; the ChiNext Price Index rose 2.9%.
