Asian, European Stocks Are Mixed
Stock markets in Asia and Europe were mixed on Wednesday. They’re not giving much of an indicator as to how U.S. markets will fare after falling on Tuesday.
Japan’s Nikkei closed up 0.9%, while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong slipped 1.1%. Germany’s DAX was down 0.4%, while the UK FTSE 100 was flat around midday local time.
Sometimes overseas markets can presage sentiment that carries over into the U.S. day, but they can also simply follow what happened in the U.S. the day before. On a day like today, it’s hard to draw any conclusions. Futures for the three main U.S. indexes were edging higher before the market opened.
