The Green Bay Packers defense will need to have some personnel adjustments in the offseason. For now, Green Bay is focusing on the upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker (7) tackles Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane (28) during the second quarter of their game Thursday, November 28, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

One player who has not performed well this season is linebacker Quay Walker. This comes as a surprise for the organization and it will be interesting to see if the Packers decide to pick up his fifth-year option once the season concludes.

Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus wrote an article about 15 different players who could potentially get traded this NFL offseason. One player who could potentially be on the move is linebacker Quay Walker of the Green Bay Packers. Some fans have not been very fond of his performance this season. Locker said:

“After being a touted linebacker intended to shore up the middle of Green Bay’s defense, Walker has underperformed in his three seasons as a Packer.

He hasn’t exceeded a 58.5 PFF overall grade in any of his three pro seasons. Even though he’s improved as a tackler, he remains a liability in coverage, allowing catches on 78.8% of targets this season to go along with 9.1 yards per reception.

As Walker has dealt with injuries this year, others stepped up in his stead. That includes second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper, who flashed with a league-best 91.4 PFF overall grade over the final four weeks. Eric Wilson (65.8 PFF overall grade) has also fared slightly better.

Green Bay could elect to keep Walker on a prove-it final season, assuming his fifth-year option gets declined. It also wouldn’t be surprising to see general manager Brian Gutekunst cut his losses and trade Walker.”

Walker has not played since 12/15 against the Seattle Seahawks because of an ankle injury. There is a solid chance that he returns from injury this weekend to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Player Stats

Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker (7) reacts after nearly intercepting a pass against San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brandon Allen (17) during their football game Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

This season, Quay Walker has recorded 102 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. It is not a surprise that Walker has had issues in pass coverage this season for the Green Bay Packers. He was the 22nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft from Georgia.

It would be a little shocking to see the Packers trade him in the offseason, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his fifth-year option declined. Walker is only 24 years old and he still has some room to grow, but it would be understandable why the  Packers would trade him this offseason.
