My top 10 things to watch Monday, Nov. 18
1. The S&P 500 is on track for a tame open after a down week for Wall Street. The recent trading in some stocks has been the opposite of tame, though. That’s why in my Sunday column for Investing Club subscribers, I explained the hidden dangers of parabolic moves and how investors should handle them.
2. A jump of 8% in shares of Tesla is helping Nasdaq futures early Monday. The stock got a boost after Bloomberg News reported that members of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team want to ease rules on self-driving cars. No doubt Tesla would be a big winner of a comprehensive overhaul of those regulations. Tesla’s Elon Musk was a big backer of Trump’s campaign and has become part of his orbit.
3. I’m urging caution on report in The Information that says a certain configuration of Nvidia‘s next-generation Blackwell AI chips is overheating and causing some customers to worry about delays. We’ve known Blackwell chips run hot, which is why server racks containing them need liquid-cooling technology. Nvidia reports earnings Wednesday night, but perhaps CEO Jensen Huang can address the story Monday afternoon when he speaks at a supercomputing conference in Atlanta. Nvidia shares are lower.
