Nikkei Closes 1.1% Higher; Focus on U.S. Presidential Polls

Japanese shares closed higher, led by stocks in the electronics and finance sectors. Investors’ focus is on the U.S. elections.
The Nikkei Stock Average rose by 1.1%, finishing at 38474.90. Among the gainers in the electronics segment, Sony climbed 2.02%, NEC increased by 3.04% and Canon gained 1.6%. In the banking sector, Mizuho Financial rose by 1.1%, while Mitsubishi UFJ Financial added 0.2%.
The exchange rate for USD/JPY stood at 152.01, down from 152.49 at the close of Tokyo’s stock-market on Friday. Japan’s markets were closed on Monday due to a public holiday.
