Sensex and Nifty rose sharply on Thursday

Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rose sharply on Thursday, driven by a rally in Asian markets and strong buying in blue-chip bank stocks.
Eight of the 13 major sectors advanced. High-weighted financials gained 0.5%, which analysts attributed to investors searching for safety due to cheaper valuations. The broader smallcaps and midcaps each shed 0.2%.
Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: From the 30 blue-chip stocks, State Bank of India, Maruti, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Power Grid were among the biggest gainers.
Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, Nestle and Tata Consultancy Services were among the laggards.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo and Shanghai were trading in the positive territory. US markets were closed on Wednesday for Christmas.
Among individual stocks, drug maker Panacea Biotech gained 5% after securing an order from UNICEF worth $14.95 million for the supply of 115 million doses of its bivalent oral polio vaccine, bOPV, in fiscal year 2025.
Construction firm Ramky Infrastructure rose 3% after winning a contract valued at 2.15 billion Indian rupees (approximately $25 million).
Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ola Electric saw a 4% increase following its expansion to 45,000 stores. The stock has climbed 10% in December so far, on track for its best month since its listing in August.

Upside momentum continues to be missing. Hence, even though 23700 remained intact on Tuesday despite several downswings, the bias is swiftly shifting lower. We would require an early push above 23760 to negate all that and get back on to the 24165 trajectory right away. Downside markers will continue to remain at 23600, with 23900 seen as the immediate upside challenge, given the low momentum.

Oil prices edge higher on hopes for more China stimulus
Oil prices edged higher on Thursday in thin holiday trading, driven by hopes for additional fiscal stimulus in China, the world’s biggest oil importer, while an anticipated decline in U.S. crude inventories also provided support.
Brent crude futures rose 22 cents, or 0.3%, to $73.80 a barrel by 0450 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $70.34 a barrel, up 24 cents, or 0.3%, from Tuesday’s pre-Christmas settlement.
