Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath on F&O mess: India looks sane when compared to US
The CEO and co-founder of Zerodha Nithin Kamath, in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle today, noted that while there has been considerable discussion around India’s derivatives turnover, the country’s market still accounts for only about 25% of U.S. premiums, drawing attention to the scale and speculative nature of the U.S. financial markets.
“Despite all the discussions about the Indian derivative turnover, we are barely 25% of US premiums,” Kamath noted.
Wall Street futures edge higher as investors await Iran’s retaliatory move
U.S. stock index futures edged up on Monday after oil prices pulled back from sharp gains earlier with investors awaiting Iran’s response to U.S. attacks on its nuclear sites.
Over the weekend, the United States launched strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, and President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of regime change in Iran.
Oil prices briefly hit a five-month high amid rising concerns around Iran shutting the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil supply route. Brent futures were nearly flat at $77.06 a barrel as of 05:49 a.m. ET.
Energy stocks rose in premarket trade, tracking a surge in crude prices. Shares of energy majors Chevron rose 0.8% and Exxon gained 1.1%.
Defense stocks also rose, with Lockheed Martin up 0.8%, RTX Corporation gaining 0.9%, Northrop Grumman advancing 1.2% and L3harris Technologies jumping 1.3%.
Novo Nordisk shares fall as obesity pipeline faces investor scrutiny
Shares in Novo Nordisk fell as much as 3.5% on Monday after detailed trial data on its experimental obesity drug CagriSema fuelled investor concerns about its competitiveness against rival Eli Lilly’s pipeline.
Novo on Sunday said full results from two late-stage trials of CagriSema – one in people with obesity or overweight, the other in overweight type 2 diabetics – showed mainly mild-to-moderate side effects and positive outcomes on blood sugar.
But, as analysts had predicted ahead of the data release, investors remained sceptical.
Rupee weakens alongside Asian peers, oil pullback cushions losses
- Rupee fell 0.2% to 86.75 vs USD as investors flocked to safe havens amid U.S.-Iran tensions.
- Brent crude peaked at $81.40 but fell to $77.4, offering some relief to the rupee.
