The Nasdaq Composite turned lower Thursday morning as struggles among Magnificent Seven stocks dragged on the major indexes.
The tech-heavy index was down 0.2%. The S&P 500 was up 0.1%. The Dow was up 60 points, or 0.1%. All three were trading higher earlier in the morning.
Tech was the only major S&P 500 sector on the decline. Industrials was the second-worst sector with a gain of 0.5%. Utilities, real estate, and communication services were all up more than 1%.
Market breadth was stellar, with 412 S&P stocks on the rise. But the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF was down 0.1%, despite a 3.6% gain for Meta Platforms and a 2.4% gain for Alphabet. The rest of the group was struggling.
Tesla was bouncing up and down; Apple was down 0.3% ahead of its earnings report; Amazon.com was down 0.6%; Nvidia fell 2%; Microsoft dropped 5.9% after its latest results disappointed.
