The dollar rose to its highest in almost a week against a basket of currencies on reduced fears over U.S.-China tensions, hopes for a resolution to the U.S. government shutdown and an easing of U.S. credit conditions concerns.

President Donald Trump said Monday he expects to reach a fair trade deal with China’s leader Xi Jinping in South Korea next week.

Also on Monday, White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett said he expects the government shutdown to end “sometime this week.”

Concerns over bad loans at U.S. regional banks waned as Zions Bancorp reported upbeat earnings after the U.S. close overnight.

The DXY dollar index rose to a high of 98.862.
