Stock Market Today: Sensex, Nifty start with a flat opening

Sensex Nifty Price, Share Market Today: Indian benchmark indices opened flat on Monday (February 5) amid global cues. Nifty50 opened 67.20 points, or 0.31 per cent higher at 21921.00 while BSE Sensex opened 183.49 points, or 0.25 per cent higher at 72269.10. Nifty Bank opened with minor cuts.

The Indian rupee (INR) opened 12 paise weaker at 83.04 against the American currency. US dollar index futures, which compare the US dollar against the six global currencies, traded in green at 0.14 points, or 0.14 per cent at 103.92.

International oil prices stablised at the start of this week as attempts continue for a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. Brent crude oil futures gained 0.27 points, or 0.35 per cent at 77.60 while US WTI futures gained 0.14 points, or 0.19 per cent at 72.42. Oil prices had witnessed a sharp downfall last week.

Asian markets traded in mixed territory with most indices turning red after UD Fed Chair Jerome Powell announced the central bank’s cautious move on rate cuts. The US Federal Reserve had kept rates unchanged after the January meeting. Japan’s Nikkei inched 0.66 per cent higher at 36,395.71 while Kospi fell 1.16 per cent at 2,585.85.

US futures traded in green during the last session with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) trading 0.38 per cent higher at 38,654.42. S&P500 and NASDAQ advanced by 1.07 per cent and 1.74 per cent respectively. US futures traded in green after a stronger jobs report and above the expected quarterly results, especially by tech giants Microsoft and Meta.
