Stock market update: Sugar stocks down as market rises

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed lower in the Monday’s session.

Magadh Sugar & Energy Ltd.(up 0.58%) and Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd.(up 0.07%) stood among the top gainers.

Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Ltd.(down 4.76%), Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Ltd.(down 3.40%), Simbhaoli Sugars Ltd.(down 3.30%), Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 3.16%), Vishwaraj Sugar Industries Ltd.(down 3.02%), Kothari Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 2.78%), Bannari Amman Sugars Ltd.(down 2.59%), KM Sugar Mills Ltd.(down 2.49%), KCP Sugar & Industries Corporation Ltd.(down 2.34%) and DCM Shriram Industries Ltd.(down 2.19%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 33.15 points down at 22442.7, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 17.39 points at 73895.54.

Britannia Industries Ltd.(up 6.69%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(up 5.02%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(up 2.03%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd.(up 1.77%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 1.46%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(up 1.2%), LTIMindtree Ltd.(up 1.12%), Tech Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.95%), IndusInd Bank Ltd.(up 0.94%) and HCL Technologies Ltd.(up 0.8%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Titan Company Ltd.(down 7.19%), Adani Enterprises Ltd.(down 3.97%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.(down 3.12%), Coal India Ltd.(down 2.95%), State Bank of India(down 2.85%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd.(down 2.3%), NTPC Ltd.(down 2.24%), HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd.(down 1.92%), Shriram Finance Ltd.(down 1.59%) and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.(down 1.39%) closed in the red.
