Stocks Hang on to Rally in Afternoon Trading
The stock market is doing something it hasn’t done much of in recent weeks: It’s holding onto a rally.
The Dow was up 800 points, or 1.9%. And the index has traded up 600 points or more for much of the session so far. The S&P 500 was up 2%, while the Nasdaq Composite was up 2.6%.
The market has been vulnerable to blown gains in recent weeks, as Wall Street expressed unease about inflation, policy uncertainty under a Trump administration, and rising bond yields. The bar for 2025 S&P 500 earnings is also high, so further gains would likely require a lot going right this year.
