Stocks were doing worse than the S&P 500 would have you believe on Wednesday.
Though the market benchmark was flat, only 137 stocks in the index were on the rise. The Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF, a proxy for breadth since it counts every stock in the index the same, was down 0.5%.
The Dow was up 34 points, or 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.3%.
