The Morning Bull – US Market Morning Update Monday, Jan, 12 2026
US stock futures are pointing lower this morning, with S&P 500 contracts down about 0.8% and Nasdaq 100 futures off more than 1.1%, as investors weigh cooling jobs data against stubborn inflation expectations. December payrolls rose by 50,000 and unemployment sits at 4.4%, which suggests the job market is slowing but not collapsing. At the same time, the 10 year US Treasury yield is hovering near 4.2%, reflecting doubts about how soon the Federal Reserve will cut rates. That puts interest rate sensitive areas like housing and high growth tech in the spotlight, as investors ask whether slower hiring will be enough to ease borrowing costs without hurting earnings too much.
With rate cuts uncertain and growth stocks under pressure, many investors are quietly rotating toward dividend stocks with yields > 3% before yields compress.
