Spencer Carbery is diving into the world of television this weekend.
The Washington Capitals‘ head coach will be making an appearance on ESPN as a special guest analyst during their doubleheader of playoff coverage on Sunday night.
Carbery will join John Buccigross, Kevin Weekes, and Arda Öcal in studio for Game 4 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens and Game 4 between the Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks.
The opportunity comes as Carbery has some unplanned free time after the Capitals failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time under his watch. The 2025 Jack Adams Award winner was hired ahead of the 2023-24 season and led the Caps to their first playoff series victory since 2018 just last year.
Beyond being a very gregarious and knowledgeable resource, Carbery will be able to provide unique insights during both games he will cover.
The Capitals beat the Canadiens in the first round of last season’s playoffs, and due to his past stint as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Carbery is very familiar with both Atlantic Division teams. Carbery will also be able to share first-hand analysis of Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Carlson, whom he coached with the Caps for three seasons.
Carbery is the second Capitals-related guest to appear on ESPN in consecutive years after TJ Oshie made his TV debut on the network during the 2025 playoffs. Oshie later signed on permanently with ESPN and has been part of a rotating cast of analysts throughout this season.
