Fed minutes, Microsoft AI event in focus

Wall Street heads into a relatively quiet week for economic data, with Federal Reserve minutes and a major Microsoft event among the key catalysts for investors.

The Fed releases minutes from its September policy meeting Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET. Investors will be watching for more detail on policymakers’ views on inflation, the labor market and the path for interest rates following last month’s decision.

Microsoft (MSFT) will hold a Windows and Surface event earlier Wednesday, with the focus expected to be on local artificial intelligence in Windows and new Surface devices. CEO Satya Nadella and Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang are expected to attend.

Elsewhere, the Paramount Skydance (PSKY) acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is expected to close Tuesday, with the combined company set to operate under the Skydance name and SKYD ticker.

PepsiCo (PEP) and Delta Air Lines (DAL) headline a light earnings calendar. Costco (COST) reports monthly sales Wednesday.

With markets facing uncertainty from AI infrastructure bottlenecks, elevated interest rates, and geopolitical risks, investors are weighing where to put fresh capital. The following article from Leo Nelissen explores several opportunities across technology, cyclical stocks, income investments, and energy.

(Free Full Article) Here’s a brief summary of the article:

This article outlines where Leo would invest the next $10,000 in today’s market, focusing on two key themes: artificial intelligence and interest rates. On AI, Leo prefers hyperscalers such as Amazon and Alphabet over suppliers, arguing that power constraints, financing challenges, and project delays could slow the pace of data center expansion. Large technology companies with strong cash flows may therefore outperform firms dependent on rapid AI infrastructure spending.

The second theme is investing in companies hurt by higher interest rates. Leo favors high-quality cyclical businesses in housing, transportation, and select REITs that could benefit if rates decline and economic growth remains resilient. Getty Realty is highlighted as an attractive income investment due to its solid balance sheet and growing dividend.

Additional ideas include short-term Treasury ETFs for cash management, CME Group as a beneficiary of market volatility, and Canadian Natural Resources for energy exposure. Overall, the strategy combines growth, income, and defensive positioning in an uncertain macro environment.

Leo runs the Investing Group Main Street Alpha to help investors navigate markets with a macro-driven strategy, real-money portfolios, and a disciplined approach to capital allocation.
