On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Ryder (NYSE:R) raised its full-year 2026 comparable earnings per share forecast range to $14.85 to $15.05. The shift toward contractual asset-light operations provides predictable earnings that protect returns during cyclical downturns. Three things management said stand out.
1. Asset-Light Growth Transforms the Revenue Base
Supply Chain Solutions, which handles warehousing and logistics, and Dedicated Transportation Solutions, which supplies customized vehicle fleets, now drive most of the business. This structural expansion reduces reliance on capital-heavy commercial truck leasing.
Our revenue mix has shifted toward Supply Chain and Dedicated, with approximately 60% of 2026 expected revenue generated by these asset-light businesses, compared to 44% in 2018, as a result of organic growth, strategic acquisitions, and innovative technology.
— John Diez, Chief Executive Officer
2. Cash Generation Unlocks Multibillion-Dollar Capital Deployment
Long-term contractual relationships generate steady operating cash flows and de-lever the balance sheet rapidly. This capital capacity gives management room to balance organic fleet investments with share repurchases and strategic acquisitions.
This leaves around $4.5 billion, which equates to approximately 50% of our quarter end market cap, available for flexible deployment to support growth and return capital to shareholders.
— Cristy Gallo-Aquino, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
3. Commercial Rental Fleet Signals an Inflection Point
Fleet Management Solutions, which handles vehicle leasing and maintenance, recorded commercial rental fleet utilization of 77%. Improving spot rates and leaner used vehicle inventories are driving higher transactional demand across tractor classes.
We are seeing good activity on the Industrial side, on the Dedicated sales activity. And then Rental, we did see an acceleration in both tractors and trailers, which is indicative of maybe this freight market showing signs of life, which is one of the encouraging signs we saw in the quarter.

Looking Ahead
Freight conditions show early stabilization as commercial fleet utilization trends higher across core operating units. Ryder’s long-term contractual model locks in steady pricing and predictable cash generation across market cycles.
And finally, we are encouraged to see benefits across the business from continued strengthening of freight market conditions. Contractual sales remain strong across all three segments, with activity accelerating in Leased and Dedicated.
