In an economy poised to be significantly disrupted by AI, the pest control sector should largely escape the wave.

A natural consolidator with stellar profitability, Rollins hits air pocket on the stock market

A North American leader with a market share of between one-fifth and one-quarter, pretty much neck-and-neck with its longtime rival Rentokil, Rollins is suffering a sharp market correction in 2026.

The group controlled by the namesake family, a natural consolidator in a highly regional and fragmented industry, commanded a valuation of between fifty and sixty times earnings throughout the last 10-year cycle. At those levels, risk was inevitably at its peak.

Over the period, revenue grew at an annual pace close to 10%, while profit tripled and the share count stayed flat, all while delivering exceptional profitability thanks to a remarkably asset-light business.

Focused on its acquisition-led growth strategy, Rollins generated $4bn in free cash flow over 2016-2025, half of which funded acquisitions with excellent returns on investment, while the other half was returned to shareholders, mainly through dividends.

The margin compression seen in the first half of 2026, largely tied to cost inflation, both in customer acquisition and wages, should, according to analysts, remain temporary.

Incurably impatient, unless it is pricing in a factor the analyst consensus missed, or harshly discounting higher rates, the market has nonetheless sent Rollins’ valuation back to 25x next year’s expected earnings.

It is true that the US residential real estate sector is in distress; the fact that investors would therefore be ill at ease regarding anything related to it is understandable.
