Banks nationwide will close on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

The newly minted federal holiday has only been on the nation’s calendar since 2021. Shortly after the adoption by the nation, several other organizations added it to their calendars as a new holiday for employees.

The New York Stock Exchange quickly followed suit and began observing the holiday. Here’s what to expect in the blackout of the market on Friday.

Are stocks open on Juneteenth?

The NYSE and Nasdaq are open traditionally for trading from 8:30 CT to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday. The two markets will observe Juneteenth and close all stock market trading on that Friday.

The markets are routinely closed on weekends and the 10 federal holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day (NYSE calls it Washington’s Birthday), Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Is Crypto trading open on Juneteenth?

Cryptocurrency markets, however, remain open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Trading crypto exchanges like Ethereum and Bitcoin will be available on Juneteenth.
