BMO Capital fired the starting gun on a comprehensive initiation of ASX resources stocks, assigning Outperform ratings to more than 40 ASX-listed mining, energy, and services companies. The move follows BMO’s acquisition of the Perth-based capital markets division of Euroz Hartleys Group, cementing the Canadian investment bank’s ambitions as a dominant global force in Australian metals and mining research.

The broad-based initiation landed across a diverse range of market capitalisations, from large-cap rare earths producer Lynas Rare Earths to micro-cap explorers like AusQuest. Perseus Mining, one of the higher-profile names in the gold cohort, received a price target of A$7.25, as Ramelius Resources was assigned a A$6.00 target, and Emerald Resources attracted a A$8.00 target, reflecting BMO’s confidence in mid-tier gold producers with strong operational profiles.

In the mining services space, GenusPlus received one of the most eye-catching targets among smaller-cap names at A$12.75, as Beach Energy were notable for it’s more neutral stance, assigned a Market Perform rating and a A$1.00 price target, making it the only company in the entire sweep to receive a neutral assessment.

Coverage Initiated: Who Stands Out?

The initiation sweep spans gold and precious metals producers and explorers, mining services and infrastructure, uranium and critical minerals, oil and gas, and industrial metals. The breadth of the coverage reflects BMO’s strategic intent to establish comprehensive research credentials across the full Australian resources value chain following its Euroz Hartleys acquisition.

Gold and Metals names

West African Resources received an Outperform rating with a A$6.75 price target, while Ora Banda Mining was initiated at Outperform with a A$2.25 target. The gold exploration cohort was notably large, with BMO assigning Outperform ratings to names including Benz Mining at A$7.00, Pantoro Gold at A$4.00, Midas Minerals at A$2.40, Andean Silver at A$3.00, Maritana Minerals at A$2.25, Sinclair Gold at A$2.00, Horizon Gold at A$1.75, and Waratah Minerals at A$1.50, among others.

BMO’s research note on Benz Mining specifically highlighted that the company’s exploration target places it among the largest gold discoveries in Australia’s recent history, a statement that positions the stock as a standout speculative opportunity within the suite.

Mining Services

In the mining services and infrastructure segment, analyst Gavin Allen took a particularly constructive view. Mader Group was initiated at Outperform with a A$8.50 price target, with Allen noting that successfully replicating the company’s specialised maintenance model across North America could effectively double the scale of the business. GenusPlus was assigned a A$12.75 target, citing structural tailwinds across Australia’s energy transition and infrastructure sectors.

Perenti received a A$3.00 target, with BMO acknowledging its leading positions in both surface and underground contract mining. Emeco Holdings was initiated at A$1.50, with BMO noting the company’s transition from a leveraged equipment rental business into a more stable, cash-generative mining services operator.

SRG Global attracted a A$4.50 target, with BMO describing it as having an enviable track record of delivered growth, while Duratec was initiated at A$3.00 on the basis of its exposure to structurally supported resources and infrastructure spend across the Australasian region.

Uranium and Critical Minerals

The uranium and critical minerals segment was handled primarily by analyst Steven Clark. Boss Energy was initiated at Outperform with a A$1.90 price target, and Bannerman Energy received the same rating with a A$4.50 target, with both calls underpinned by BMO’s view of structural supply deficits in global uranium markets and rising nuclear power adoption.

Silex Systems, which is developing laser-based uranium enrichment technology, was initiated at Outperform with a A$7.50 target, reflecting potential commercialisation upside, with a target more than double the current price of A$3.49.

Lynas Rare Earths received one of the more significant endorsements in the sweep, with a A$17.00 Outperform target reflecting the company’s status as the leading non-Chinese producer of separated rare earth oxides, a position that carries considerable strategic weight in the context of global supply chain diversification and defence applications.

Energy

In the energy sector, Beach Energy’s Market Perform rating stood in clear contrast to the rest of the sweep. BMO assigned the stock a A$1.00 price target, reflecting analyst caution around execution risk and capital expenditure requirements relative to the growth potential available in smaller-cap energy peers.

Those smaller names, including Amplitude Energy at A$2.69, Strike Energy at A$0.20, Elixir Energy at A$0.20, Carnarvon Energy at A$0.15, and Australis Oil & Gas at A$0.07, all received Outperform ratings, suggesting BMO sees more asymmetric upside in earlier-stage energy plays than in the more established Beach Energy.
