Globe Life stock barely flinched after Q3 2026 earnings, slipping about 0.7% to US$168.41 even as the insurer posted basic earnings per share of US$4.71 and net income of US$361.1m. Short-term traders see a quiet tape. Longer term investors see a different story, centred on a company with a trailing P/E of 10.9 that sits well below a peer average of 39.2 and a model valuation that suggests the shares trade at a steep discount.

If you like Globe Life’s valuation profile and are looking for more peers that combine compressed P/E ratios with resilient fundamentals and clean balance sheets, take a look at our list of solid balance sheet and fundamentals stocks (26 results).

Globe Life’s Bull Story Hinges On Cash, Not Premiums

The bullish pitch says Globe Life is less about chasing premium volume and more about squeezing more out of its balance sheet and share count.

“A key factor is that Globe Life maintains underwriting performance and health premium growth while continuing to return excess cash through share repurchases.”

Q3 results line up with that script. Health premium revenue rose strongly and underwriting margins held up once one off items at United American are stripped out. Management also leaned into capital returns, buying back about 1.1m shares for US$185m and lifting full year repurchase plans, even as life premiums were mixed and direct to consumer life sales fell.

Globe Life Bear Case: Health Strain Outruns AI Hopes

Globe Life’s critics argue that health obligations are starting to consume the very efficiency gains that are meant to protect profitability.

“The recent rise in health obligations to 56.8% of premium and the drag from higher severity claims and start-up units indicate that efficiency gains may be absorbed by claim volatility.”

This quarter does not disprove that concern. Health premium expanded faster than any other line, yet the combined ratio for the group moved higher and United American’s Evry unit produced a sizeable underwriting loss. Net operating income per share edged up only 1% and EPS again came in slightly below consensus, so margin resilience is not yet matching the growth in health exposure.
