Haleon PLC (LSE:HLN, NYSE:HLN) has launched a £500 million share buyback programme as the consumer healthcare group moves to return capital to shareholders and reduce its share count.

The programme, announced alongside Haleon’s third-quarter trading update, will run until no later than February 19, 2027.

Haleon has entered into an irrevocable agreement with Citigroup Global Markets Limited to carry out the purchases.

Shares may be bought on the London Stock Exchange, CBOE Europe or Aquis, with Citi making trading decisions independently of Haleon.

Around 80% of the shares acquired under the programme are expected to be cancelled, reducing Haleon’s issued share capital.

The remaining shares will be held in treasury without voting or dividend rights and used to meet obligations under employee share plans in 2027 and 2028.

The buyback is being carried out under authority granted by shareholders at Haleon’s annual general meeting in April.

That authority allows the company to purchase up to around 805 million shares, although Haleon said there is no guarantee the full £500 million programme will be completed.

Haleon owns consumer health brands including Sensodyne, Panadol, Advil, Centrum and Voltaren across oral health, pain relief, respiratory health and other categories.
