ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Local high school students competed in the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge on Wednesday.
More than 125 students from six local high schools competed in the investing and trading simulation using fake funds using real stock market data.
Organizers said the challenge, alongside JA Take Stock in Your Future classroom lessons, seeks to teach how the stock market works and the impact of current events on the stock market.
Teams were given $1,000,000 to invest and each new “trading day” which takes place every 1 minute brought news from the market that students analyzed and then utilized floor traders to make their decisions. These teams worked together to buy, sell, or trade stocks, which showed them how every choice made in investing relates to its future success. In the end, the teams who have built the largest portfolios win.
