On Monday, both the Nifty 50 and Sensex surged nearly 4% in a broad-based relief rally, spurred by easing geopolitical tensions and the ceasefire agreement. The rally was further supported by robust buying from both foreign and domestic investors.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought Indian equities worth Rs 1,246 crore ($146.9 million) on Monday, according to provisional data. So far in May, FPIs have invested $1.7 billion in Indian markets, encouraged by strong domestic growth prospects, a softer U.S. dollar, and easing global trade tensions.

Aditya Birla Capital Q4 Results: Profit drops 30% to Rs 865 crore
Aditya Birla Capital, a non-deposit taking non-banking financial company (NBFC), on Tuesday reported an over 30 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 865 crore for three months ended March 31, 2025. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 1,245.41 crore in the same quarter of the preceding fiscal year.
Its total income grew to Rs 12,239 crore in the January-March quarter of the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), from Rs 10,803 crore in the year-ago period, Aditya Birla Capital said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.
Gold surges Rs 950 to Rs 97,500/10 g amid firm global cues
Gold price rallied by Rs 950 to Rs 97,500 per 10 gram in the national capital on Tuesday amid firm trend in overseas markets, according to the All India Sarafa Association. The precious metal of 99.5 per cent purity jumped Rs 1,000 to Rs 97,100 per 10 gram.
Meanwhile, silver depreciated Rs 250 to Rs 99,450 per kg against the previous close of Rs 99,700 per kg. Read More
FTSE 100 steady as trade-deal rally fades, UK job market cools
Britain’s FTSE 100 was flat on Tuesday after a rally fuelled by a U.S.-China trade truce, while fresh data revealed a cooling UK labour market that could influence the Bank of England’s future rate decisions.
The blue-chip FTSE 100 was up 0.07% by 1050 GMT, while the domestically focused midcap index advanced 0.5%.
A White House executive order said on Monday the U.S. will cut the low-value “de minimis” tariff on China shipments, further de-escalating a potentially damaging trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
JSW One Platforms raises Rs 340 cr from Principal Asset Management, others
JSW One Platforms, the B2B e-commerce division of the JSW Group, on Tuesday announced a Rs 340-crore fundraise from Principal Asset Management and OneUp. The conglomerate’s steel arm JSW Steel also participated in the round, after which the JSW One Platforms’ valuation catapulted to USD 1 billion making it enter the coveted unicorn club.
The valuation has jumped by over three times since the last round of funding in April 2023, a company statement said, adding that it had then raised Rs 205 crore from Japan’s Mitsui & Co.
The newly raised capital will strengthen the national supply chain in steel and cement categories, deepen distribution and logistics networks across India, scale the fintech and Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) arms, and enable wider access to credit for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), it said.
Carborundum Universal posts Q4 net profit of Rs 30.10 crore
Carborundum Universal Ltd, a manufacturer of abrasives, reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 30.10 crore for the January-March 2025 quarter, the company said. The city-based company had recorded a net profit of Rs 142.56 crore during the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
For the year ending March 31, 2025, the company’s net profit stood at Rs 298.71 crore, compared to Rs 476.18 crore reported in the same period last year.
The consolidated total income for the quarter under review remained flat at Rs 1,223.38 crore, as against Rs 1,213.73 crore recorded in the year-ago period.
Tata Motors Q4 Results: PAT falls 51% YoY to Rs 8,470 crore; Rs 6 per share dividend declared
Leading automaker Tata Motors on Tuesday reported 51% fall in its consolidated net profit at Rs 8,470 crore in the quarter ended March 2025. Revenue from operations in the same period was flat at Rs 1.19 lakh crore.

GAIL Q4 Results: Profit grows 1% YoY to Rs 2,506 crore; board declares final dividend of Rs 1 per share
State-owned GAIL (India) Ltd on Tuesday reported a modest 1.3% year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,505.61 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2025, compared to a profit of Rs 2,474.31 crore reported in the year-ago period.
Sequentially, the company’s net profit fell sharply from Rs 4,084.24 crore in the December 2024 quarter.
The Maharatna public sector undertaking’s board recommended a final dividend of Rs 1 per share of face value Rs 10 each for FY25, subject to shareholder approval. “This is in addition to the interim dividend of Rs 6.50 per equity share paid during the year by the Company,” GAIL said in a stock exchange filing. Gold rebounded on Tuesday, supported by bargain-hunting after prices fell to a more than one-week low in the previous session. The drop came as a temporary truce in U.S.-China tariffs boosted demand for riskier assets, reducing the appeal of gold as a safe haven.
As of 0458 GMT, spot gold was up 0.5% at $3,250.50 an ounce, following a 2.7% decline in the prior session.
It appears that (the) Indian market has shed its fears regarding the India-Pakistan conflict, but a China-U.S. trade deal may reduce the relative attractiveness of India. Rising fears of global trade disruptions since March made India the place to hide for foreign investors. However the receding fears may drive a shift in FIIs towards China.
