Gold hit a more than four-month high on Monday as U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate cut bets this month and a softer dollar heightened bullion’s allure, while silver breached $40 per ounce for the first time since 2011.
Spot gold gained 0.9% to $3,477.89 per ounce by 0847 GMT, hitting its highest point since April 22. U.S. gold futures for December delivery gained 0.9% to $3,548.0.
Spot silver jumped 2.7% to $40.72 per ounce, its highest since September 2011.

Commodities Market Updates: Aluminium futures fall on low demand

Aluminium prices on Monday declined 25 paise to Rs 254.95 per kilogram in the futures trade as participants trimmed their positions on a weak trend in the spot market.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in September fell 25 paise or 0.1 per cent to Rs 254.95 per kg in 4,125 lots.
Analysts said cutting down of positions by participants on easing demand from consuming industries mainly kept aluminium prices lower.

Commodities Market Updates: Zinc futures rise on high demand

Zinc prices on Monday rose Rs 1.95 to Rs 273.25 per kilogram in futures trade amid a pick-up in spot demand.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc contracts for September delivery traded higher by Rs 1.95 or 0.72 per cent to Rs 273.25 per kilogram with a business turnover of 3,446 lots.
Marketmen said the widening of positions by participants, following a pick-up in demand from consuming industries kept zinc prices higher in the futures trade.

Commodities Market Updates: Copper futures gain on higher spot demand

Copper futures rose 0.51 per cent to Rs 905 per kilogram on Monday due to higher spot demand.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper contracts for September delivery grew Rs 4.55 or 0.51 per cent to Rs 905 per kg in a business turnover of 6,920 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in copper prices to higher bets by participants.

State-run telecom firm Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd has been penalised by stock exchanges NSE and BSE for non-compliance with respect to composition of the board as per SEBI norms, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Indian government bonds declined in early trading on Monday, as debt supply continued to overshoot demand and market sentiment was weak on worries over fiscal slippage. Bond yields move inversely to prices.
The benchmark 10-year bond yield was at 6.6072% as of 10:10 a.m. IST, against Friday’s close of 6.5678%. The yield rose 19 basis points in August, its biggest monthly rise since September 2022.
The one-year OIS rate was little changed at 5.52%, while the two-year OIS rate rose nearly 2 bps to 5.5150%. The five-year OIS rate was up 3 bps at 5.81%.
