The market is in a consolidation phase, and this is likely to continue. There are no major triggers for aggressive buying or selling. Even in this consolidation phase the undertone of the market is bullish and, therefore, buying on dips will emerge imparting resilience to the market. Strong up moves will attract profit booking and, therefore, sustained rally would be difficult.

Rupee ends higher, mild inflows aid recovery from record low
The rupee edged higher on Friday as mild inflows and exporter dollar sales lifted the currency after it hit an all-time low in the previous session. The rupee closed at 83.5325 against the U.S. dollar, up 0.1% from its close at 83.6525 in the previous session. It hit a record low of 83.6650 on Thursday.
The currency was little changed week-on-week.

Asian currencies muted on robust dollar, rupiah at 4-year low
Most emerging Asian currencies were subdued on Friday, with the Indonesian rupiah touching a fresh four-year low as the Federal Reserve’s reluctance to cut interest rates added pressure.
The Indonesian rupiah slipped as much as 0.3% to 16,475.00, the lowest since early April 2020, a day after Bank of Indonesia kept its interest rate unchanged and said it would fine-tune other tools to stabilise the weakening currency.

Japan’s Nikkei closes lower as tech shares drag; value stocks up
Japan’s Nikkei share average ended Friday marginally lower, as declines in technology stocks outweighed gains in value stocks, supported by a weaker yen and higher yields.
The Nikkei closed down 0.09% at 38,596.47 following three consecutive sessions of gains. However, it recorded a weekly decline of 0.49%.
Bitcoin slips below $65,000 amid stronger US Dollar; BNB, Shiba Inu drop over 3%
Major crypto tokens experienced declines on Friday due to a strengthening U.S. dollar, which reached an eight-week high. The Federal Reserve’s cautious approach to interest rate cuts differed from more dovish stances adopted by other central banks.
As of 11:56 a.m. IST, Bitcoin was trading down 1.3% at $64,592, while Ethereum was trading below the $3,550 mark.

JGB yields rise as weakened yen stirs BOJ policy concerns
On Friday, Japanese government bond (JGB) yields increased, driven by a weaker yen that raised concerns about the Bank of Japan’s monetary policy direction.
The 10-year JGB yield climbed to over a one-week peak of 0.98% and last recorded a rise of 2.5 basis points (bps) to 0.975%.

Wall Street bucks global rally as bond yields rise
On Thursday, Wall Street stocks retreated from earlier record highs in line with gains seen in international markets, despite soft U.S. economic data. Treasury yields, anticipating new supply next week, rebounded after an initial dip.
Meanwhile, the dollar strengthened as higher U.S. yields widened the gap compared to rates in other currencies, which are generally lower. The dollar approached the 160 yen mark, a level that prompted Tokyo to intervene in late April to stabilize its currency.
Dollar extends gains against yen with US economic strength in focus
The dollar rose to a seven-week high against the yen on Thursday, while the sterling and euro fell amid on the U.S. economy is coming off the boil while traders watch for more data bolstering the case for a Federal Reserve rate cut this year.
May retail sales released this week were tepid and the labor market appears to be weakening. The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell last week, but was still more than expected, data released on Thursday showed, indicating the jobs market remained strong despite a gradual cooling.
Oil prices slip as rate hike worries come into focus
In early trading on Friday, crude oil futures declined due to expectations of prolonged higher interest rates in Asia and the United States. However, prices were supported by a decrease in U.S. oil inventories.
Specifically, Brent futures for August delivery fell by 11 cents to $85.60 per barrel as of 0013 GMT, while U.S. crude prices dropped 9 cents to $81.20 per barrel.
