What this means for investors
Opendoor Technologies stock fell today, Oct. 16, as shares still felt the sting of this week’s plunge to a historical all-time low of $1.93 per share during intraday trading on Oct. 15. The stock had recovered from the low as a sharp drop in the 10-year Treasury yield fueled a small rally. That trend reversed today as a sluggish housing market battling rising interest rates kept Wall Street investors concerned about the company and the real estate sector in general.
Last week, Opendoor said its home-loan unit exited beta and added fixed and adjustable mortgages, which could broaden the platform and support transaction volume. The new offering is intended to streamline the homebuying process for consumers with loan pre-qualification happening in minutes.
The company is working to transform its business amid declining sales. In the second quarter, Opendoor reported revenue of $883 million, a massive drop from 2025’s $1.6 billion. Adding to the dismal picture, its costs rose, resulting in a Q2 net loss of $162 million, up from a loss of $29 million in the prior year. That said, Opendoor forecasted Q3 sales to grow 20% year over year. Investors will be closely watching the next earnings report to see if Opendoor can deliver.
