How the markets moved today

The S&P 500 (^GSPC +0.86%) closed at 7,656, rising 0.84%, while the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC +0.96%) finished at 26,333, up 0.96%. Among technology hardware and enterprise infrastructure peers, Dell Technologies (DELL +11.97%) closed at $567.30, up 11.98%, and Arista Networks (ANET +5.61%) closed at $199.59, up 5.61%, as AI server and networking demand stayed in focus.

What this means for investors

Confidence in continued AI infrastructure spending was bolstered by Oracle‘s (ORCL -1.74%) strong results last night. That helped maintain momentum after HPE reported record results last week.

Oracle beat expectations mainly due to its data center strength. Its large capital spending plans are on track. That supports what HPE said in its report on Sept. 2, where it raised fiscal 2026 guidance for both earnings and revenue.

AI spending remains the key driver, and as long as it continues to grow, HPE shareholders should see positive results.
