On October 27, 2026, a company that gets about 30% of its sales from the pool industry had its best trading day in more than six years. Pentair (NYSE:PNR) rose 12.80% (+$7.07) to $62.29 and then traded at $62.70 after hours, which put its market value at $9.94 billion. This is a water treatment company, even though the name sounds like an under-the-radar airline business.

A blue industrial pump sits on a wet, light gray concrete floor, with puddles of water around its base. Green and blue glowing circuit board lines and digital data streams are superimposed over the pump and extend into the background, where rows of dark gray server racks fill a large data center room. The room is dimly lit with a blue-green technological glow, emphasizing the digital elements interacting with the physical pump.

The stock hadn’t posted a larger one-day gain since March 24, 2020, when it jumped about 18% to $27.01 from $22.85. Headlines described Pentair as a company that helps cool AI data centers. The word “AI” does not appear in either the release or the earnings call, though, and Pentair gave no figure for data center revenue.

What Pentair Reported on October 27

Third-quarter sales came in at $976 million, down 4%, and core sales fell 5%. Adjusted EPS was $1.18, down from $1.24 a year earlier. It still beat the $1.07 consensus and Pentair’s own guidance of $1.05 to $1.08, with about $8 million of tariff refunds helping.

Pool sales dropped 18% to $291.5 million. Chief executive John Stauch said, “The pool channel inventory realignment is now complete.”

That matters because destocking (dealers selling from their shelves instead of reordering) held Pentair’s sales below actual pool demand, but with destocking over, orders can rise even if pool demand stays flat.

Where the Data Center Pitch Comes From

The data center angle comes from Taco Group Holdings, a $1.4 billion hydronics deal that closed on October 1. Hydronic systems use pumps, valves, and heat exchangers to move heated or chilled water through a building, and data centers use them too.
