The Morning Bull – UK Market Morning Update Friday, 6 Nov 2026
UK stocks look set for a firm open as attention concentrates on the Bank of England. Anticipation of the first rate increase in three years is defining sentiment across the UK market this morning.
Investors are working with expectations of a 25 bp move that would take Bank Rate to 4.00%. A UK CPI reading of 3.5% in September underpins the case for tighter policy and shapes positioning in sterling and gilts ahead of the MPC decision.
Higher policy rates would filter quickly into borrowing costs on mortgages and corporate loans, which can pressure interest sensitive spending. Earnings expectations for highly leveraged businesses become more uncertain, while sectors with surplus cash and shorter investment cycles may look relatively more resilient.
The unresolved question is how forcefully the BoE signals any further tightening. A firm signal of more hikes would keep pressure on rate sensitive assets. In contrast, a more cautious tone would challenge the current positioning built around continued tightening.
Stocks to Watch Before the Opening Bell
National Grid (NG.)
Fresh detail on summer blackouts puts National Grid’s UK Electricity Distribution arm in focus. High temperatures disrupted equipment and led to extra local outages, which the group has now highlighted alongside its latest half year figures. Investors will be watching how much extra maintenance and grid hardening National Grid budgets for, in order to handle more frequent heat stress on infrastructure.
Morgan Sindall Group (MGNS)
A profit upgrade sets Morgan Sindall apart this morning. Management now expects 2026 earnings slightly ahead of previous guidance, helped by firm trading in Fit Out, Construction and Infrastructure, with double digit profit growth anticipated in the latter two. A share buyback of up to £75m, running through 2027, adds another moving part for earnings per share and capital returns.
Croda International (CRDA)
Croda International has put down a clear marker with Q3 2026 numbers. Organic sales reached £449.9m, with Consumer Care providing the main lift. The group kept its full year outlook unchanged and outlined a transformation plan that targets about £100m of annualised pretax benefits and a £50m working capital reduction by 2028, which matters for cash generation.
