The Morning Bull – US Market Morning Update Friday, Jun, 19 2026
US stock futures are pointing higher this morning, with E-mini S&P 500 contracts up about 0.8% and Nasdaq-100 futures ahead roughly 1.5%, as investors digest a mix of firm economic data and a tougher tone from global central banks. The US Federal Reserve kept interest rates steady but signalled that several policymakers still see one more hike by the end of 2026. This means borrowing costs for mortgages, credit cards and business loans may stay relatively high. At the same time, US retail sales rose 0.9% in May, suggesting consumers are still spending. A sharp drop of 8.262 million barrels in US crude oil inventories and a recent slide in oil prices highlight a tug of war between demand and supply. The key question for investors is whether the economy can handle higher for longer interest rates without squeezing consumer spending, putting sectors such as tech, smaller growth stocks and interest rate sensitive areas like real estate squarely in focus.
With rates staying higher for longer, focus on sturdier balance sheets by using our solid balance sheet and fundamentals stocks screener (48 results).
