Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching as the three major averages slid for a third day, and what’s on the radar for the next session. Rates and bond ETF yields The U.S. 30-year Treasury bond yield hit a 19-year high. Germany’s 30-year bund yields touched their highest level since 2011. France’s 30-year note touched a roughly 18-year high. Britain’s 30-year gilt approached levels hit in May that were the highest reached since 1998. The U.S. six-month Treasury bill yield is just under 4%, and the one-year T-bill yield passed 4% last week. It’s just below that mark Tuesday night. The Fidelity Corporate Bond ETF (FCOR) is yielding 4.68%. The iShares 0-5 Year High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (SHYG) is yielding 7%. The State Street SPDR Bloomberg High Yield Bond ETF (JNK) yields 6.62%. The iShares iBoxx High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG) is yielding 5.89%. The KraneShares Asia Pacific High Income USD Bond ETF (KHYB) has a yield of about 9% Tuesday night. Cramer, the chips and the shorts The data is telling “Mad Money” man Jim Cramer that short activity is near its highest level in history. The chip stocks reacted to higher rates on Tuesday. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) dropped 4.1% today. It is now 15% from the June 22 high. Teradyne lost almost 9%, while Marvell fell close to 8% and Micron dropped 7% Tuesday. TER 5D mountain Teradyne in the past five trading days Momentum stocks and rates The iShares MSCI USA Momentum Factor ETF (MTUM) is down 10% from the June 22 high. Micron, AMD, Broadcom, Intel, Caterpillar, ExxonMobil, Lam Research, Johnson & Johnson, GE Vernova and Applied Materials are the biggest holdings in MTUM. Tech stocks and rates In two days, the worst two S & P sectors are communication services and information technology. Both are down more than 2% so far this week. Target The retail giant reports live on “Squawk Box” Wednesday morning. Becky Quick, who has a keen eye for the retail sector, will have the results and reaction with Andrew Ross Sorkin and Joe Kernen. The stock is on a tear. Target is up 82% from the November lows. Shares are up 56% so far in 2026. On Tuesday night, Target is off 2.5% from last week’s high. TGT YTD mountain Target in 2026 Lowe’s The home improvement retailer reports a day after Home Depot’s beat . Lowe’s is down 1% in three months, and the stock is off 26% from the February high. Estee Lauder The cosmetics company reports on “Squawk Box” on Wednesday as well. Estee Lauder is up 5% in the last three months. It is 31% from the February high. EL 3M mountain Estee Lauder in the past three months Oh, Canada! The Trump administration may be about to put a new 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of goods from our neighbor to the north. The iShares MSCI Canada ETF (EWC) hit a new high on Monday. The ETF is up 30% in 12 months, and it is up 7% in three months. Energy in the U.S. There were new highs on Tuesday for Marathon Petroleum , Phillips 66 , Targa Resources , Valero , and a new 52-week high for Oneok . Marathon Petroleum is up almost 16% in August and up 41% in three months. Phillips 66 is up 15% in August. Targa Resources is up 10% in August. Valero is up almost 12% in August. Oneok is up nearly 7% in August. Chartmaster Carter Worth of “Fast Money” fame said his numbers are telling him the refiners are now due for a drop. That call goes for the refiners only — not energy overall. Diesel crack in the U.S. U.S. diesel refining margins hit a record high of $102.20 per barrel on Tuesday. A big reason in the shipping disruptions in the Middle East and Russia, and a massive rise in demand for shipping. Gasoline futures are up 17% in the last two weeks.
