SpaceX’s public debut in June gave investors a new yardstick for how fast a space-linked stock can move, in both directions. Since then, shares of newer space companies have swung hard around SpaceX’s latest report.
Yahoo Finance reported on October 21 that SpaceX opened with its biggest jump since the debut, after third-quarter revenue and profit beat Wall Street estimates. The company’s AI business now brings in nearly half of its sales.
Space Stocks Rally, Then Give It Back
The move spread beyond SpaceX itself. Intuitive Machines and Firefly Aerospace led the group higher that morning, while Rocket Lab and AST SpaceMobile trailed, according to Yahoo Finance. The typical newer space stock had fallen about 26% in October up to that point. Jared Blikre, Yahoo Finance’s global markets and data editor, noted that earlier share unlocks had barely dented SpaceX, and that holding above $150 through the next one would show buyers absorbing the new supply comfortably.

The gains did not last. Yahoo Finance said on October 23 that a Thursday sell-off wiped out Wednesday’s 9% jump, as worries grew that the AI trade had run ahead of itself. Another large batch of insider shares had also become eligible for sale.
A Tesla Tie-Up Could Reshape Musk’s Orbit
Elon Musk said on the earnings call that SpaceX and Tesla have each formed special committees of independent directors to study a combination, and that he cannot take part in the decision as a conflicted party, Yahoo Finance reported. Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management puts the odds of a deal within two years at 95%. A merged company would be worth about $3.5 trillion.
Starlink drives the numbers. Connectivity revenue rose 69% to $5.2 billion, and President Gwynne Shotwell said the service added 1.6 million subscribers in the quarter. Bloomberg reported that SpaceX is seeking to lease space on 80,000 US cell sites to build a terrestrial network, and is in talks with Crown Castle and American Tower.

Spending is rising too. Chris Versace of Tematica Research wrote on October 21 that SpaceX’s plan to spend $35 billion to $40 billion in the fourth quarter points to a new and higher level of capital spending than the market expected. He noted that a $63 billion backlog supports it.
