Investors who held Gen Digital (GEN) stock from May 4 to November 2, 2026, saw a 53.8% return, compared with a 5.3% gain for the S&P 500. The stock fell 12.0% on September 24 after a reported GoDaddy bid, and rose 15.8% on October 29 after management said it was not working on a transformative acquisition. Over those six months, the company raised its full-year guidance twice. In its latest quarter, the Trust-Based Solutions segment, which houses the financial wellness products the company bought MoneyLion to strengthen, grew far faster than its Cyber Safety business. Could you have seen any of that coming before May?
Gen Digital Talked About MoneyLion From January 2025
Partly, if you were listening to the earnings calls. During its January 30, 2025 call, management said the MoneyLion acquisition was meant to strengthen and speed up Gen Digital’s financial wellness offerings. That discussion occurred more than a year before the six months measured here.
On the May 6, 2025 call, management said it was organizing the business around two segments, and Gen Digital now reports Trust-Based Solutions separately from Cyber Safety. Through the rest of 2025, management maintained that the deal was proceeding to plan. On the August 7 call, management said the integration was running ahead of schedule, and on the November 6 call, management called it one of the company’s smoothest integrations so far. The May 2025 call also covered AI-made scams and bookings, so MoneyLion was one topic among several rather than the only one.
The Filed Quarters Showed Gen Digital Growing Faster
The company’s filed results shifted during those same months. Revenue grew 4.8% in the quarter ended March 2025, compared with the same quarter a year earlier. In the quarter ended July 2025, which Gen Digital filed on August 13, 2025, revenue grew 30.3%. Growth stayed close to that pace afterward, at 25.8% in the quarter ended January 2026, which was filed on February 6, 2026. Trust-Based Solutions generated most of the revenue added in the fiscal year ended April 3, 2026, while Cyber Safety grew 5.1%.
This faster sales growth arrived alongside a thinner margin. The operating margin was 41.9% in the quarter ended March 2025 and 36.3% in the quarter ended July 2025.
The faster growth appeared in public filings starting in August 2025, and the shares still lost 24.6% in the six months before May 4, 2026. You could have found the evidence, but holding the stock based on it meant sitting through that fall first.
