An investment boom needs more than exciting technology and rising profits. It also needs buyers willing to keep financing the expansion. Artificial intelligence has encouraged companies to build infrastructure and investors to pay for future growth. But every new stock offering competes for investment dollars, and early shareholders eventually want to cash out. A business can keep growing while its stock struggles if the price investors will pay falls.
For shareholders heading toward 2027, the financing behind the AI boom deserves attention alongside the earnings it promises. That is the pressure billionaire Paul Tudor Jones now sees building.
Why Paul Tudor Jones Is Worried About 2027
Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Oct. 13, the Tudor Investment founder said 2027 could bring the most unfavorable stock-market flow environment since 2002. His comparison concerns the balance between shares available for sale and money available to buy them. It is not a specific forecast that annual losses will exceed every decline in the intervening 25 years, but it is something investors should be mindful of when buying stocks.
Jones argues that buybacks and acquisitions supported much of the four-year bull market by reducing available equity. Now, new initial public offerings associated with the AI boom could reverse that advantage. He pointed to anticipated IPOs from Anthropic and OpenAI in particular, alongside further fundraising for continuing to build out AI infrastructure.
