Independent Bank (INDB) Stock Trades Up, Here Is Why

What Happened?

Shares of regional banking company Independent Bank (NASDAQ:INDB) jumped 2.8% in the pre-market session after the company reported third quarter earnings results with sales slightly ahead of Wall Street’s expectations, up 7.5% year on year to $261.9 million.

According to a company press release, Independent Bank reported third-quarter net income of $89.7 million, or $1.90 per diluted share, improving from $81.8 million, or $1.70 per diluted share, in the previous quarter. Adjusted EPS clocked in at $1.90 vs analyst estimates of $1.85 (2.9% beat). Net interest income grew by $9.7 million from the prior quarter, bolstered by a four-basis-point increase in net interest margin to 3.89%. The release also revealed the bank repurchased approximately 679,000 common shares for $57.4 million during the quarter. Regarding credit quality, annualized net charge-offs remained stable at 0.02% of average loans, and criticized and classified commercial loans were unchanged at 3.9%, even as the provision for credit losses edged up to $6.5 million due to a specific reserve on an office loan. The margin improvement and steady credit quality highlighted durable lending profitability, reinforcing investor confidence against broader regional banking pressures.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Independent Bank’s shares are not very volatile and have only had 1 move greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful, although it might not be something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 3 months ago when the stock dropped 6.8% on the news that the company reported second-quarter results that missed Wall Street’s expectations for both earnings and revenue.

Independent Bank is up 10.4% since the beginning of the year, and at $80.81 per share, it is trading close to its 52-week high of $87.17 from July 2026. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of Independent Bank’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $997.47.
