The Trade Desk (NASDAQ:TTD) has become one of this year’s hardest-hit advertising technology names, and the key question is whether the selloff has run its course. Trade Desk stock has fallen 67% year to date (YTD), recently trading around $12.43 and leaving the company with a market value of $5.34 billion.
Advertisers and agencies use The Trade Desk’s self-service platform to buy digital ads across connected TV, mobile, display, audio and digital out-of-home channels. The big question, then, is whether investors should buy or sell TTD stock now.
A Second-Quarter Miss Reset Expectations
The slide in Trade Desk stock deepened in early August, when The Trade Desk reported Q2 2026 revenue of $715.06 million, below analyst expectations and up only 3% year over year. Its Q3 2026 revenue outlook of at least $650 million came in well below expectations.
Management at The Trade Desk pointed to pressure on consumer packaged goods and automotive advertisers, execution problems and a shift toward lower-cost fixed-price media. The company spoke on the earnings call. It stated that consumer packaged goods and autos together represent “around 25% of our business.” CEO Jeff Green also admitted, “We didn’t execute as well as we could have.”
