What this means for investors
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, CoreWeave’s stock crashed after research giant Gartner warned that 80% of neoclouds could disappear by 2030, pointing out that over $3.5 trillion in AI infrastructure spending could be exposed to impairment that year. This announcement appeared on the same day Consumer Price Index (CPI) data came in hotter than expected, pointing to a greater possibility of more federal rate increases to fight elevated inflation, making CoreWeave’s massive debt load a significant risk for investors.
Adding fuel to the fire, venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya shared a chart on social media showing CoreWeave’s bond yield soaring to a jaw-dropping 15% as a warning about a potential private credit bubble forming around the artificial intelligence industry. The world’s first trillionaire, Elon Musk, responded with a single word: “Yikes.”
According to Bloomberg, CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator dismissed the sell-off in an internal memo, telling staff that the market was acting “irrationally,” and that the company’s contract backlog is large enough to cover its obligations.
In August, CoreWeave reported strong second-quarter results, and that quarter remains the clearest gauge of growth and margin execution. The company’s Q2 revenue hit $2.6 billion, a 112% year-over-year increase, and CoreWeave forecasted this year’s sales to reach at least $12.4 billion, more than double the $5.1 billion achieved in 2025.
