The Morning Bull – US Market Morning Update Friday, Apr, 17 2026

US stock futures are pointing slightly higher this morning, with key contracts on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 up around 0.1% to 0.2%, as investors weigh firm bond yields against mixed economic signals. The US 10 year Treasury yield sits above 4.3%, which keeps borrowing costs elevated for households and companies. At the same time, US industrial production fell 0.5% in March while a regional factory scorecard, the Philadelphia Fed index, jumped to 26.7, suggesting manufacturing is improving in some areas but not others. The big question now is whether higher-for-longer interest rates will pressure rate sensitive areas like real estate and smaller companies more than they support bank earnings and parts of the industrial sector.

With rates staying higher for longer, focus on sturdier balance sheets by using our solid balance sheet and fundamentals stocks screener (42 results).
